Meet Dr. Patricia E. Hernández-Rivera

Dr. Patricia Hernández-Rivera was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. She transitioned from 14 years of general dentistry (2006–2020) to specializing in Oral Medicine at the University of Alberta (2021). She joined the TMD/Oral Medicine clinic in 2025. She is a former student of Dr. I. Hernández at the Oral Medicine Graduate Program, University of Alberta. Dr. Hernández – Rivera focuses on the expert diagnosis and management of temporomandibular joint disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, orofacial pain, and oral mucosal diseases, grounded in a patient-centred philosophy.

A dedicated academic, Dr. Hernández-Rivera has authored and co-authored more than 20 scientific publications and continues to contribute to the field as a lecturer and a PhD candidate at the University of Alberta. She balances her clinical and research rigor with a love for the outdoors and quality time with her family
